I feel badly for Shawn because it seems that the judging was a lot about a subjective preference for Liukin’s style over Shawn’s, which in the end is not all that fair, especially since Nastia’s elegance is also partly a result of her slender and tall figure, which is not determined by her but by mother nature. Things could have slanted the other way had there been a preference for power and athleticism over elegance and grace. Shawn was not scored well on bars at all and yet she had a fabulous dismount. I also don’t like the fact that being an absolute superpower on one event should have as much bearing on the overall results. When you look at their scores, Shawn had a .8 advantage on vault, the same exact score on floor, and her beam score was only .075 lower than Nastia’s. So at the end it all boiled down to the uneven bars. I’m not saying that Nastia didn’t deserve to win. She was amazing, but so was Shawn. At the Tyson American Cup, Shawn scored higher on 3 events and yet Nastia won because she scored higher on bars. This scoring system doesn’t make sense to me.

I'm confused. According to Tim Daggett Shawn Johnson couldn't have scored a 16.125 to catch Nastia Liukin because she supposedly didn't have the start value. But according to other competition results she had a 6.6 difficulty score which means that her start value is 16.6. Is this different at the Olympics?

Shawn would have had to be almost flawless to not get knocked down on the B score. Her leaps and splits were the best I had seen them in the AA floor and beam finals.

Shawn Johnson in particular but all the gynmnasts- Thanks for all you showed in excellence and pride in being an American who is generous is spirit and caring for all your fellow compeititors. Your outgoing personality and smile to warm the entire world, should go a long way to set an example of how the Olympics just may help promote world Peace just that little bit - and inspire youth to perserve and attain excellence while not losing what is so wonderful about yourselves. Both you and Natashia and the entire team of gynmasts were simply amazing. As a former gynmast am so proud of all of you..it was a thrill for us to share your performance and your win. Even if you had not won it would have a win because of your behaviour and spunky, innovative excellence. Thanks for the amazing performances - and show of personal strength and pride in good sportsmanship. If only all sports programs could engrain such generous values in sportsmanship while attaining such excellence. Through your example your values can be shared with all kids coming through the ranks - and their parents and coaches - AND countries..I hope.
Its great to see such inspiring examples.
